Where have I been?
I feel like it has been forever and a day since I last sat down at my computer or even thought about posting. If you know me you know things are never normal in my world and when it comes to health, that has proven to be no exception. lol... I went to work tuesday morning like I always do but felt a bit "off." I just blamed it on the fact that it was my monday and I always feel off going to work that first day. By 8am I was starting to feel dizzy.. low blood sugar? that's what I thought so oj it was. By 9am I was barely able to stare straight and I got sent home and immediately climbed into bed. I set the alarm so I could wake to get my son but when it went off, I was unable to sit up as the world was violently spinning around me so much so I was nauseous. The world was moving to the right with tremendous force and my body followed. DH left work to get G and came home to check on me. At that point we knew something was definitely not right so we got a hold of doctor and back down the hill we went. Sitting upright proved to be a bad idea on the winding roads down the hill. I made it into the MD office, using the walls to catch myself as I walked and down on the exam table I went. I LOVE my doctor. He is the first one I have come across who has managed to diagnose a lot of my ailments and this was no exception. Apparently I had an ear infection I wasn't aware of but completely unrelated to the dizziness I was experiencing. I was diagnosed with Labrynthitis with head movements. It's a viral inner ear infection which has a sudden onset in the midst of regular activity and occurs when an infection affects both branches of the vestibulo-cochlear nerve, resulting in hearing changes as well as dizziness or vertigo. LMAO.. vertigo.. that's an understatment! As a pharmacist I dispense medication for such types of conditions but one can never truely appreciate it unless you experience it. I am absolutely miserable. The doctor treated my ear infection, gave me a shot of medication to help the nausea and sent me home to bed rest. Little niave me thought I'd wake up wednesday morning feeling more like myself. Silly me. First, the medication to treat the vertigo makes me so drowsy I don't really function and second, the condition itself is not one that allows for normal activity... as I have been reading.. for several weeks and then may continue to be problematic. I spent wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday in bed eating not much more than peanut butter toast to avoid upsetting my stomach. I have ventured downstairs today, still dizzy, but feeling more alert and I have found myself on the sofa in my favorite room taking in some sunshine between the storm clouds. I am quickly realizing my life will not be back to normal for some time. Work is still up in the air. I definitely can not drive which complicates our lives even more so. And on top of all that, those regulatory people who come every 3 years showed up last week to check in on one area of the hospital and will likely be returning for full survey in the coming weeks. When it rains it pours right? Well.. as I always say... if it wasn't this it would be something else!
