Pinewood Derby

So, I went to pick G up from summer aquatic camp today and he asked if we could go to the derby tonight. Now, we had NO idea that he had been working all week to make his derby car at camp because he is an almost 9 year old boy. You know, the kind that, when asked how their day was says "fine" and "nothing much" is what he did today. LOL... Now, DH used to race derby cars as a kid when he was in Boy Scouts so he was familiar with the derby races but we had no idea that we had such a large showing annually here in town. It was quite the show. The cars that they had at camp were the very basic, generic, no frills cars. They didn't go very fast compared to the other kids cars (or should I say parents that the child raced because there is NO way the 4 and 5 year olds made those cars themselves). There was a family sitting in front of us that had apparently won the last 3 years and their oldest was only 7! Anywhooooo, G was disappointed his car didn't do well but is excited that he could potentially make a "cool car" for next year. All in all, it was a fun evening... see a little of G sitting in the chair in the bottom right corner, legs crossed looking like such a big kid. G's car was in the back row, 4th from the left... the green and black one.
